VoiceThread is a dynamic online conversation tool that provides faculty and students with the unique opportunity to interact using asynchronous (delayed) voice and video commenting. I have been using VoiceThread in my own online classes since 2007. Each semester, my students share with me how our VoiceThread activities make them feel more connected to me and their peers, reduce the sense of isolation that may occur in online classes, and help them learn in different ways.
At CI, VoiceThread is bundled inside of CI Learn (Blackboard), creating a simple and effective way for faculty to set up, participate in, and grade engaging, humanized activities. To date, 125 faculty/staff are using VoiceThread and more than 2,000 CI students have commented in course-related VoiceThread activities.
To support the growing use of VoiceThread, Teaching and Learning Innovations at CI has established a CI VoiceThread User Community. This wiki-based community provides CI faculty with a space to:
- Share effective uses of VoiceThread
- Discuss questions that surface in the teaching and learning process
- Request a complimentary copy of my eBook, How to Humanize Your Online Class with VoiceThread
- Learn from a community of peers
- Identify new applications of VoiceThread for your classes
We hope you will help us share the news about the new VoiceThread User Community! To join and start sharing today, click here and follow the instructions under “How to Join.”
