University of Nebraska Press Senior Acquisitions Editor, Dr. Matthew Bokovoy will discuss the process and state of academic book publishing. In this regard, come learn about the myths and realities of publishing “the book.” Frank Barajas, Chair and Professor of History and Chicana/o Studies, will give a brief introduction on how he came to know Dr. Bokovoy in the publication of Curious Unions with the UNP. Co-Constructing Classroom Community: Tips & Techniques for Increased Student Success

A sense of classroom “community” has shown to positively affect student attendance, enrollment, and even graduate rates. Meanwhile, students who report feeling a sense of community in their classes demonstrate higher levels of participation, risk taking, and knowledge retention. Each of these realities are especially evident among first generation and historically underrepresented groups – a population that speaks to the very heart of CI’s student body. This workshop will cover a range of tips and techniques for co-constructing a sense of community in your own classroom setting.

Thinking About Information: Facilitating the Information Literate Classroom

How can faculty scaffold information literacy concepts throughout their syllabi and assignments to help students achieve greater understanding of the choices they make in choosing information sources? This workshop is an opportunity for faculty to work with librarians to learn how to incorporate information literacy practices into their courses with low-stakes assignments. Managing the Paper Load: Holistic Assessment of Student Writing

This workshop will focus on the use of rubrics and Google tools to holistically assess student writing. Workshop participants will be provided with strategies for conducting assessment individually as well as collaboratively, synchronously and asynchronously. Participating faculty will be invited to provide real student papers for this purpose. Faculty who sign up for this workshop will be contacted in advance to coordinate electronic submission of student work along with relevant prompts and existing rubrics.

Since 2012, more than 60 faculty have complete T&LI's Blended Learning Preparation Program (BLPP). This gathering will be an opportunity for faculty to connect to share and discuss shared successes and struggles with teaching blended classes.

Take a moment to reflect on your experiences, click the RSVP form below and share one problem and one success from your blended class. These will be used to facilitate our conversation on February 6th, which can be attended in person or remotely in Zoom.
